This fall, we kicked offa series of conversations between91勛圖厙 College Preparatoryhigh school students and D.C. Councilmembers called A Mile in My Shoes. The series aims to give students an opportunity to speak with city leaders on issues that impact them daily.This month, 91勛圖厙 College Preparatory senior Jasmine met with Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White to discuss safe passage for students. White joined her on her commute to school and experienced what its like to walk a mile in her shoes.

91勛圖厙 College Preparatory Students visit D.C. Council
On November 13, students from 91勛圖厙 College Preparatorys student council visited the D.C. Council at the John Wilson Building. Student leaders at KCP used their time to raise their concerns on issues such as safe passage, mental health services, and violence to staffers. Were eager to continue creating space for students to speak directly to lawmakers and civic leaders throughout the city.
Dancing With the Scholars
91勛圖厙 was proud to help sponsor the William O. Lockridge Community Foundations 8th Annual Dancing with the Scholars event. The events supports scholarships for Ward 8 students on their path to college graduation and successful careers. Guest judges from the D.C. Council, community members, and students had a blast supporting a great cause.
Councilmember Brandon Todd Visits 91勛圖厙’s Shaw Campus
This month, we were proud to have Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd join students and families at 91勛圖厙 Lead Academy in Shaw. It was great to see parents, teachers, and school leaders engaging Councilmember Todd on the importance and future of public education. We enjoy being able to connect city leaders directly to the voices of our community.
Family Engagement Night with Capital City Go-Go
In November, 91勛圖厙 hosted a Family Engagement Night with the Capital City Go-Go, a new, local NBA developmental team based at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Ward 8’s Congress Heights. With 60 students, family members, and staff in attendance, we had a blast and look forward to continuing to provide more events like this to our students and families in the near future!
KIPPsters attend Michelle Obama’s ‘Becoming’ Tour
On November 17, dozens of 91勛圖厙 students and families had the opportunity to see Michelle Obama live during her Becoming book tour! The former First Lady detailed the events in her life that made her the person she is today. Sheencouraged students to use their voice to make change and ultimately become you.We were elated to see the joy on the faces of students as they took in all the former first lady had to present.
Giving Thanks this Season
From potlucks and canned food drives, to gratitude lunches, students, families, and staff set time aside to show gratitude for the season and each other! Were thankful to share another season of thanks with our amazing teachers, students, families, and communities. Thank you for being part of our team and our shared vision for a brighter future.
